Willits Garden Club Projects

The Willits Garden Club worked on the following project goals during previous program years:
SENIOR CENTER COMMUNITY GARDEN
The Willits Harrah Senior Center Community Garden is operated by the Harrah Senior Center in coordination with the Gardens Project of North Coast Opprtunities. The Senior Center Garden has spaces for members of the Willits community to grow produce for their own uses.

The WILLITS GARDEN CLUB has purchased four rows there as a Community Project, and Garden Club members will grow produce for the benefit of the Senior Center and the Willits Community. Fran and Gloria of the Garden Club are helping coordinate assignment of rows and other arrangements. More information.
CIVIC BEAUTIFICATION
The Willits Garden Club assisted with beautification of grounds and parks surrounding the Howard Memorial Hospital.
MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTIONS
Donations pay for horticulture magazine subscriptions at the Willits Branch of the Mendocino County Library.
FLORAL DISPLAY & PLANT SALE
In May, the garden club sells plants at the Senior Center and, in conjunction with the plant sale, there will be floral displays and beautiful arrangements, as well as activities for children.

PENNY PINES
Willits Garden Club pays for the planting of new trees by the Mendocino National Forest that restore new growth after fires. See past Penny Pines Recipients HERE.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The Club sponsored a fundraising golf tournament at Brooktrails Golf Course. A small floral display and plant sale accompanied a shotgun tournament featuring teams of four golfers playing in "scramble" format.

Monies raised sponsored scholarships to eligible graduates from Willits high schools who continue college education in agriculture, nutrition, horticulture, conservation or related fields. See previous Scholarship Recipients HERE.
